This is a condition called “Plantar Fasciitis” In my case once I found a treatment it was easy and immediate relief from the pain. Continue reading →
Every year the spring rains come and turn everyone’s yards into Muddy Messes. Every one Curses the spring rains for the mess they create. I look at them like a shower after a long hard day. Renewed life the clean smell, the songs of the birds and the twitter of the tree frogs after a spring rain are enough of a comparison to how I feel after a shower to be dismissed. Our grandparents looked at the spring rains as a chance to fill the ponds recharge the wells and top off the cisterns. Continue reading →
Nanny didn’t waste money but she wasn’t afraid to Spend it Either. she would Spend money on Big hams. Or that Huge Turkey. She knew The Frugal Secret! Nanny was born during the years leading to the great depression. She had seen her fair share of hard times. It showed in how she cooked. She was an old time cook. I can’t count the number of times I came home to what I thought was an empty refrigerator complaining that there was nothing to eat! Only to set down to a dinner table flush with Beans and Cornbread or Buttered Potatoes, Green Beans and Ham slices. This is a Skill that is Quickly disappearing in todays McMicrowave world. Growing up we had Oil lamps in the home in case the electric went out. These Effective and inexpensive forms of Light worked wonderfully keeping the Boogie Man away. I would say that if you went from home to home in my part of the world as a child. You would find that almost everyone had the same oil lamps. They were as common as soup beans and fried taters. Tring to be frugal today I started working with the tomatoes seed starts I had planted. The Burpee Hybrids I planted are doing amazing they are up and out with only a few slow starts. The Organic seeds from Home Farmer aren’t doing so well out of 37 Starts I have 2 Brandy Wine and 1 Cherokee Purple. To say that I am not impressed is an understatement. The Brandy Wine seeds didn’t germinate I have dissected 3 of the peat moss growing media all with the same results. The coating the seeds had on them didn’t dissolve it just became gooey and the seeds never germinated. I am hoping that this is not the case with other organic seeds. I am going to go back to my local Walmart and try Burpee Organic Tomato’s Seeds and see if I have the same issue. Problem is, now I am almost 2 weeks behind with organic tomatoes. So I have a plan. Well today I discovered a new need we will file this under the Simplified Life Part of The Creek Road Podcast Motto.
For a long time now I have received Letters from a discontinued Insurance policy for more supporting information on a claim I submitted. American Fidelity Flex is the insurance company my work let them set up a Flexible spending account for the employee’s medical needs and co-pays. It works like this I let American Fidelity Flex Debit $50.00 a paycheck and the insurance company gave me a debit card with $1000.00 on it I can spend on any approved medical needs like co-pays, deductibles on my medicine and the like. I quit the program because last year I didn’t spend $560. Of my balance and American Fidelity Flex sent it back to my employer and they kept it. And for the last 3 years I have been trying my best to get them program changed from the flexible spending account. To a Medical savings account in a medical savings account you can roll over unspent balances for use at a later time. If everyone had a Medical Savings Account Imagine the Negotiating power you would have as a Medical Consumer. Mr. Dr. Name I have cash to pay for my Boob Job what is the Best rate you can give me. I am getting of the Topic Continue reading →
Today is the First official Day of Spring and the Vernal Equinox according to the almanac it happens at 6:45 pm EST when the sun crosses over the celestial equator. If you are a weather man spring started March 1st. For me spring started when I opened the door the other evening and heard the Tree Frogs Peeping. About that same time I noticed that the Trees were just starting get the red Buds. The red buds are a sure sign of days getting longer. And within a few days the Red Buds Burst and what was just a hint of red is now very noticeable. Soon there will be small leaves. There is the old timers saying I heard my Grandpa say every year. Got to get the potatoes into the ground by Saint Patrick’s Day. But the Old Indian Wisdom says Plant the potato when the buds on the trees are the size of a squirrel’s ear. Well that would be about now. The Indians cultivated a lot of crops and use the signs of the season to do it by. Continue reading →
