Im Coming Back

Folks I will be Back and Making Podcasts.

I have Been gone Feeling Sorry for myself. That Stops Now.

I have decided to Just get back in the saddle and have fun.

I am going to be making a few changes.

1 is that i will pick a topic and do a little research and form and viewpoint and opinion before i start the podcast. I hated how the podcast sounded i was searching and looking for things to sound intelligent. and that just made me the sound garden boy for the joke you see about podcasts.

2 I’m going to start posting about things i find interesting.

3 were going to have fun. That is the overriding thing we will be having fun in doing all the things we need to do to make sure we have the things taken care of so that no matter what happens we are ok.

Its time to Rebuild the Sight and the Podcast. Like the 6 Million Dollar Man

We Will be Better, Stronger, Faster.

Welcome Back Creek Road Nation.

A Life Well Lived

My Dad:  A Life Well Lived.

I have been dealing with a lot of things lately. We all do, that’s what makes us Human.

We each live a life that we Choose, We Choose the Outcome of the Personal and Social Interactions we share every day with Folks.

Dad Died A few Weeks ago. He Died On May4th at 2 Pm. Star-Wars Day I would like to Believe that the Force Came for him. Dad Was a Great Great Man and I hope that Some day I grow up to Be 1/10th the Man that He Was.

How do you Judge a Mans Life, By the Size of his Estate,? By the Size of his Bank Account ?.  No you judge the Impact of a Life well Lived by the Number of Friends, Relatives, Lodge Members, Work Associates and so on that Take the time to come to the Funeral Home and show and speak about your Father. I stood for 4 hrs shaking hands and listening to everyones stories of there time with my Dad. How he always had a Smile. Or a Helping Hand Or a Word of Encouragement. A Joke.

In my Experience Dad was a soft-spoken Man. He would often let others take advantage of a situation. And if i would ask why. Dad would look at me and say ” Son they Must Have Needed that More than I did”  Smile and that would be the end of it.

I learned that there was no shame in taking something used, abused or misused and rebuilding it. Making it your own.  Because in doing that you Owned Understood and can now repair that part for the rest of your life.

He Taught Me how to Care For the Family. Dad was a man of unlimited wisdom and listened to me preach the Evils of the world. And after i spun myself down from the High tower. He would hug me and look at me and say ” Son Don’t Let the Bastards Get you Down.”

So many Life Lessons Given with to me from a True Man. A Man that Never Had a Dad of his Own. Wisdom that had to be learned from Hard Nocks and by the Example of his Grandfather.

My Dad was Absolutely My Super Hero. I Truly mean that with all my hart.  Of all the Bad Days in my Life. Of which there have been very few. The Worst was The Day i looked at my Dad and Realized He was Human.

I love you Dad.

I will Carry your Legacy with Honor and try to be the Man you Showed me.

Making Mead and hard ciders

Welcome Creek Road Nation to Episode 42 Making Mead And Ciders of The Creek Road Podcast.

On this weeks Episode We talk about

Making Mead And Hard Ciders, Cold Showers Replacing The Water Heater, The Parting out of Whole Food into Several Products.

Cold Showers and Replacing the water heater

On Demand Hot water is one of the Luxuries we take for granted. In many countries cold showers are a way of life. Heck showers are a luxury and some times water to bath in is a luxury. Many times we loose sight of the fact that we have it pretty good so good we forget that warm water to bath in is not a necessity. But a Luxury. Several things in our every day lives are so common that unless you loose access to them we forget that they just make life more comfortable.

The Parting our of Whole Food into Several Products.

One of the Luxuries we have at our finger tips is Cheep Food. One of the more Disturbing trends I am seeing is the Parting our of foods. Foods that are being Broken down into in some cases there individual chemical components and reconstructed to create cheep food at the cost of allergen sensitivity to them after processing that we don’t see in the whole Food. And Turning former waste products into Foods that are consumed on massive scale.

Making Mead And Hard Ciders.

And We talk about my adventure of making Hard Apple Cider. And Mead In Small Batches. Making Hard Ciders and Meads is and ancient way of life that is very Easy and produces a custom lightly alcoholic drink that is totally your creation. Using Apple Juice from the store. Utilizing the Gallon Jugs the juice Came in makes for an easy and efficient way to produce several different types of hard ciders.

Simple Hard Apple Cider

  1. Gallon of your Choice of Apple Juice { Make Sure there is no preservatives except for ascorbic acid is ok }
  2. Yeast  { a Yeast meant to Make Alcohol is best I used Red Star Montrachet Wine yeast }
  3. Balloon as your air lock.
  4. Pitch your yeast according to package directions. put balloon on in place of cap. wait for Ferment to finish. { About 20 Days } gently poor off your Hard Cider leaving the settled out Yeast in Bottom of Jug Into secondary jug or bottles. at this point you can let it mellow our in the new jug or bottle. it is much better if you let it age in the second jug before you bottle it and drink.

Brewing Hard Apple Cider Sorry Postponed Podcast

Brewing Hard Apple Cider Sorry Postponed Podcast

Sorry CreekRoad Nation.

I have yo postpone this week’s episode of The Creek Road Podcast.

Having water heater issues and frigid cold showers. Not A happy Podcast make.

I will be back on the next episode.

And we will discuss my week of cold shower therapeutics. And how dad an I fixed the problem.

I don’t like to work on electrical devices that can’t be unplugged. It’s a phobia. That I can ignore and do the work if I have to.  But I’m by no means and electrician. So I let others with the experience do that work.

This week’s adventure in brewing moved to the next step for the Dec 10th 2015 Hard Apple Cider. I moved it from the primary ferment bottle to a secondary. And tasted it.  Wow talk about Delight. Both my Son and Daughter in law liked it and are looking forward to the final product.

The Taste is very good. It’s was flat. I plan to carbonate the Hard Apple Cider in the bottles. It had a lite apple smell and smooth taste with a smack of alcohol. I’m guessing it’s stronger than wine coolers. I added a pinch of salt to my glass it brought out the taste of apples. Then I added just a pinch of sugar. That didn’t help it but didn’t hurt. But then at the idea of my son and daughter in law I added a shake of cinnamon. WOW!!! that made a drink of kings. And made me look for vinilla. But I didn’t have any. But I know what I’m going to do for the second batch I have brewing.

Well friends I will see you soon. If for some reason I don’t get a podcast posted before Christmas.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I.S.L.Y.B

Ohio’s Chemical Valley A debate over good Jobs and Bad Health

Is the Concept that if you work for a company and get sick from you work the company will take care of you Valid? Or is it Misinformation Fed to employees to foster loyalty to the company.

Growing up in Rural West Virginia. I have seen my share of Loyalty Disasters.  Miners that sell their Body and Sole to the Mine to have their body destroyed and end up living in a tar paper shack with their oxygen mask going 24 hrs. A day Extoling the virtue of the good jobs the mine gives to good employees. The economic boost that comes to the local economy because of it. As the mines closed and the chemical plants moved to foreign lands. The social and economic aftermath that destroys communities is always blamed on greedy company owners. As it should. But one thing I have seen so often is the willingness for Appalachian workers to sell their health to the company store. And carry the company line to and early grave.

Treated like parts of a machine Appalachian workers are tossed aside like scrap. To watch as the company that they extoled the virtues of close declare bankruptcy and steal the money from the very programs they claimed would take care of the Appalachian worker whose body they used and destroyed. Often the programs are paid for with the workers money.

Living in a Food Desert

Growing up In West Virginia We had access to all kinds of local foods. Fresh Corn, Fresh Green Beans. Local Meats from Local Farms. It wasn’t uncommon to Know the Farmer that sold the Live Beef to the slaughterhouse, that sold the processed Beef to Johnsons Supermarket, where Oscar the Butcher Cut it up and packaged it, for my mom who shopped at Johnsons Supermarket accost the street from My child hood home.

But today I live in the same city. Access to Fresh Local fresh foods is diminishing to the point that obtaining fresh local food is once again becoming a Hunter / Gather culture.

The population of America is 321,216,397 “stat from census.org” That Means there is a Gun for every Man, Woman, Child in America.

Ok that is just a little Data that I have skimmed from the internet. Sights on both sides of the debate about gun control. If you want to read the sights your self just google “how many guns in America” you will find the same information I have.

First Disclaimer I am a 2nd amendment Supporter and avid Gun owner and hunter. I build Rifles and Muzzleloaders. I Absolutely enjoy anything that goes BANG!

I have tried to Detach myself from the personal attachments and arguments that we form as we try to consciously or subconsciously justify actions, belief’s or ideas. And Just look at the Facts.

So Many people get mired in the feel good saying and sound bites that they loose sight of the Facts. So I posted some Facts “above”

Why Gun Control Can’t Work

In 1945 at the end of WW2 with unimaginable devastation across Germany there were Wolf Packs small groups of armed citizens loyal to the final orders of Adolf Hitler. Blowing up buildings, shooting allied soldiers. As the Soldiers tried to start the rebuilding of the infrastructure to feed the population.

Japan was considering an invasion on the land mass of the United States of America, but they were afraid to, and the reason they were afraid to, because they knew that every American is armed. And although they were not afraid of our armies, they were afraid of our citizens.

The average person in the United States is a Law abiding citizen. And if told that there is a law against something will complie with that law, even if that Law is in direct opposition to Constitutional Liberties. Proof is easily seen in the states and cities across the country that directly outlaw gun ownership. Or make gun ownership so draconian that it becomes impossible for average citizens to own a gun and follow the law. Creating and entire class of citizen that becomes crimanals with the stroke of a pen, or by choice hoping that they will never be caught protecting themselves or there family.

A person I consider a friend “Jack Spirco” has what he calls the 10% rule. it is and easy to understand rule it states that 90% of people are good people. wanting to fallow the law. Then there is the 10% that only fallow the law because they are afraid that they will be picked up by law enforcement. Out of that 10% even a smaller number 1% or 2% don’t care. The 1% are the ones we see on the News they are the ones that break the law and don’t care if they are caught. Putting that in perspective we can use some math.

300 million people in the united states. minus 90% = 270 million law abiding citizens.

Minus 10% = 30 million people only fallow the law because of fear of law enforcement and getting caught.

Minus .01% = 3 million psychopaths that don’t care that will break what ever laws to do what they want.

The one percent is across the board it is in all parts of government, in every industry, in every police department, in the Girl scouts / Boy scouts, On Facebook, in the local Rotary Clubs, in every part of the world. These are the people we see on the News when they commit crime and are caught. They are the people we shake our heads about and say how can this happen. They Don’t care about anything But there desires and how to get them.

The Idea of Gun Control is a Romantic one. In a lot of ways it is a Religious belief that if only the proper Authorities had access to guns people wouldn’t kill each other. If only that were true. Even in Countries where the average Citizen cant own guns. Guns are used to commit murder and violent crimes.

Even in a perfect gun free world the 1% of Psychopaths will find a way to do evil things to further there desires. Bombs, Poison Gas, Contaminated Water Supply’s. Poisoned Drugs and Food, the list goes on and on.

In a lot of ways we are living in a less naïve world than 30 years ago. 30 years ago we didn’t have a lot of the violence in movies and on TV. We had cartoons that had Birds and Coyotes that Blew each other up. Chickens that were hit in the head with Bats. And Short Hunters with speech problems that shot the Beaks off Ducks during Rabbit Season. But the children laughed and enjoyed the stupidity of the situation with out imitating it.

We have in so many ways disconnected out selves from the world around us our lives are antibacterial. antisocial, anti-normal. We take no Responsibility for our Actions, Thoughts, Beliefs. Instead blaming every bad thing on something that has to be at the Root of the Problem. Making Laws against that thing. Megan’s Law, Kristen’s law, Jessica’s Law. The list goes on and on. some of Theas laws addressed issues that prevented law enforcement from using resources at there disposal to help. but others are reactionary and stem from the issue at hand of not wanting to accept responsibility for actions of individuals.

As of October 25th 2015 there are between 3,000,000. and 6,000,000. People in this country that are willing to do terrible things to get what they want. If every law-abiding Citizen of this country walked into the local police station and turned in every gun they owned. The only people who had guns would be the ones that we most don’t want to have them.

I have tried to keep my Pro Gun Believes out of this post. But now I am going to say things that I believe.

If you look at all the Places were it is illegal or almost impossible for Law abiding citizens to own a gun you see lots of people who Follow the law in danger from Criminals with guns.

At the End of WW2 In a Devastated Starving Germany with Thousands of Allied Troops. There were the Wolf Packs with Guns and killing people.

In the United States with Laws that Prevent Civil Rights from being Violated. There are Off the Book Police Stations where people Disappear and cant be located by Family or Lawyers. “Holman Square

What a lot of people who Want Gun Control Or Total Confiscation of Guns Forget Or Never Relies is the Fathers of the United States Government, the Creators of our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Never Envisioned a nation where we had to worry about defending our selves from crime and drug dealers, robbers and bandits. Self Defense was a God Given Right

The 2nd Amendment was created so that the Citizens of a Free Republic. would be able to stand and defend liberty and Justus against Anyone trying to take away Life Liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Including Standing against tyranny.

Patrick Henry believed that a citizenry trained in arms was the only sure guarantor of liberty

Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist No. 29 that “little more can be reasonably aimed at, with respect to the people at large, than to have them properly armed

The Fathers of our Country thought it Necessary for the average citizen of the country be armed to ensure the continued Liberty of the People

Lets Talk about Saving seeds

Lets Talk about Saving seeds

There are so many reasons why you and I want to save seeds. From the mundane to the profound. Saving seeds gives you the opportunity to create you own strain or variety of Mum. it lets you share in the Bounty of the surplus our garden gives us in so many new ways. That ripe Juicy tomato that you picked from the tomato plant that sprouted in your compost bed. To the Watermelon that Grew out from under the deck probably planted buy the Games played last 4th of July during the Cook out. And grandma’s mums she so lovingly doted and plants every year.

Saving seeds is easy. Most of the time all you have to do is go out and pick the mature seeds from the mums when the flowers wilt dry and droop. taking you time and selecting several dry flowers will provide large amounts of seeds. Seeds you can take home and store until it is time to plant again next season.

Some times saving seeds is not as simple. Tomato seeds can just be saved from the juicy tomato you sliced for your BLT. But doing it properly can increase your success rate. instead of me telling you how to do it and making this a very long post I will just link to a wonderful outline on Permaculture News Saving Tomato Seeds. Go check them out to get the Skinny on how to save Tomato Seeds.

Other times you will find opportunity’s as you take your daily walk. At the End of Mt Vernon Ave in my Home town is a wonderful display of Flowers. Installed and taken care of by a local garden club. This year they had the most Beautiful Zinnia’s Sky Blue and Large Flowers. I noticed Sunday that the flower heads had dried and were ready to drop seeds so I stopped and picked a nice large Seed head. I plan to add them to my flowers next year and I may go back for more. Zinnia and Mums are both very easy Seeds to harvest.

Zinna Blue

Don’t forget to save a few of your Best Performing Vegetable’s to save seeds from. they will be the ones that will be the Best for your garden aria next year and soon you will have your own variety of Tomato, Potato, Cucumber, Mum, and on and on that give you the best produce and flowers for your Garden.

And the best Part they will be yours you will be able to save money and pass them on to your Family.
